Google Signals

I guess the biggest news this month was the admission from Google of the top two signals Google uses to help rank web pages. If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook you would have seen our posts on this. The two signals are Links and Content, we don’t know which is number 1 and 2 but we know it’s those too.

Movement in the Ranking results

At the tail end of March (26-28th) we think Google performed an update/refresh however we are not currently sure what was updated. We know it wasn’t the Penguin algorithm update we have been waiting for.

The Penguin Algorithm

Google have said that they understand the implications that the Penguin algorithm update could have for many websites, therefore they will not release the latest Penguin algorithm update until it is ready and they are happy with it.
The new update when it arrives will be continuously running, this will help if the websites ranking positions have dropped you should be able to identify the links that may have caused this. This is great news for us when it is live, just make sure you or your SEO agency is monitoring your rankings well and your link building.
It will not be instant but will relatively quick.

More information about the Penguin algorithm came out this month. Some website owners who have been penalised by the last Penguin update and are currently waiting (… and waiting) for the next update have asked Google to manually run the algorithm on their sites. Google however, can not run the algorithm manually so they will just have to wait.

Google User Experiences

Google have been rolling out many different small UX changes to their sites, we haven’t listed them here as they don’t affect how your website performs in search engines, which is what these blog post are about. Also, it would probably be longer than our 2 minute read limit.

A Google Ranking Signal, or not

Google have confirmed that people clicking on search results do not affect page ranking, what might happen though is that Google might see a trend of people clicking on a link and give it a temporary ranking benefit, but very temporary!

Bad SEO = Bad results

Google also mentioned in a recent interview that websites tend to get penalised due to Bad SEO, good SEO agencies perform a great service so it is now even more important to choose the right SEO agency.

Sites ranking 10th perform better than 9th

Google this month said that since the movement of the PPC Adwords adverts from the right of the search results websites that rank 10th perform better than pages that are ranked 8th or 9th.

Pay-Per-Click Adwords News

Some PPC Adwords news was announced this month. Google will be redesigning the whole Adwords website and service. It will take 12-18 months to do and they are not starting for about year.

You can buy Yahoo!

Finally Yahoo! is up for sale. If you wish to bid for the search engine/online service you have until 11th April to send in your bid. Good Luck!

New Google Mobile Friendly Update

A little while ago back in April 2015 Google launched their mobile friendly algorithm which identified websites that were mobile friendly and reward them in the ranking results, remember Mobilegeddon?

Mobilegeddon

Well Google have announced that there will be a further update to this algorithm coming soon.

When the ‘original mobile friendly algorithm‘ was launched it decided if your website was mobile friendly and rank it a little better in mobile search results.
It was a big change and affected many websites over night. There wasn’t any gradual roll out here!

Instead over a week the algorithm helped mobile friendly websites rank better.

So back to this new update Google have informed us about. Well instead of a big impact update the new update will continuously crawl websites page by page and update their database with what they find. If your website is already mobile friendly then you have nothing to worry about.
However if you haven’t got a mobile friendly website then the chances are this update will affect you sooner or later.

When will the Google mobile friendly update happen?

Google have stated that their target is May 2016, however if you have been following our monthly SEO report you will know Google doesn’t always hit their target dates (re: Penguin update).

If you would like to check to see if your website is mobile friendly or not, Google have created a little tool which all you need to do is enter in your website address. Here is a link to it.

Latest important SEO news, inc tips!

Google Search Result movements

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen a fair amount of movement across the board in keyword ranking positions, Google have confirmed that a Penguin or Panda update was not run. Still that said we do think Google have refreshed something.

Position 10 is now good!

Recently Google informed the World that position 10 is better than 8 or 9 in their search results!

No more Penguin alerts!

Google have decided to stop guessing when the next release of the Penguin algorithm will run, that have been predicting live dates for the last 6 months and we are still waiting. Just to remind you that the Penguin algorithm helps identify bad/spam links to your website and could penalise your website if bad link are found. A lot of webmasters who have cleaned up their bad links are currently waiting for this update so their websites can recover.

HTML sitemaps, Good or Bad?

Lots of reports over the last month or so about the benefits of a HTML sitemap, Google have confirmed that there isn’t any advantage to have a HTML sitemap in the search rankings, however if there are pages that search engines are having trouble indexing this is another way to help find those pages. It is also a nice page to have for the visitor to find what they are looking for.

Google My Business News

Great news! You can now upload photos via the bulk upload option for Google My Business.

Animal Sounds – The things you can learn!

And finally for this snippet of the latest SEO news, Google have introduced animal sounds to their search engine. Yep, you can now type into Google ‘What sound does a Duck make?’ and it will tell you (spoiler alert! it’s quack quack!)

Don’t forget at end of each month we round up all the most important SEO, PPC and online marketing news which you actually should know about and compressed it all into a 2 min read. If you would like to read our previous and still useful reports this link will take you there: All the SEO news you need to know in a 2 minute read.

Google Search Results: position 10 is now better than 8 or 9!

Lots of things are changing in the way Google display their search results, not long ago the paid PPC adverts that were on the right-hand side of the page moved into the left organic lists.

As a result, where your website is positioned in the organic listings has also changed. Google have confirmed (yes, confirmed!) that for most searches it is better to be placed in position 10 than 8 or 9.

The reason behind this is that it seems searchers do not like to click onto page 2 of the search results, therefore, when they scroll down Google’s search results they run out and end up with the website ranked at number 10. Google thinks that instead of clicking to the second page the searcher would prefer to click on the last entry.

So how can we benefit from this?

Well if you are having trouble ranking for a keyword in the top 5 then maybe aim for number 10 instead!

New Carousel to show off Oscars

It goes without saying and makes complete sense search engines like Google and Bing continuously keep testing new things to try and improve their product. Why wouldn’t they, they are no different to you and us testing new things with our products.

The other day we saw a new carousel on Google when searching for Oscar information.

Google Oscar Winners carousel
Google Oscar Winners carousel

As you can see the carousel fills the whole screen, it doesn’t matter if you are viewing on a small mobile screen or a large high res monitor.
A nice new development, we will see if they continue to use.

Juicy SEO – Monthly Online Marketing Report for February 2016

Welcome to the February 2016 Juicy SEO Online Marketing report! In case you missed previous months reports they can all be found in our Monthly Online Marketing Blog, head over as there is a lot of good tips to help your website perform better.

As per normal, we have squished a whole months worth of important SEO, PPC and Online Marketing news into a 120-second read, enjoy!

1. Lets start with the biggest news for this month and this time it affects both SEO and PPC. Google have started to roll out a change to their search results that they will no longer show Adverts (AdWords PPC) on the right-hand side but instead to increase the amount of adverts at the top and bottom of the main search results. This is obviously bad news for SEO as we now have more adverts ‘pretending’ to be organic results. But on the flip side, it is good news for PPC! If you would like to know more about this very important change head over to our Google removes right-hand side adverts in search results page.

2. If you have been reading our monthly reports for a while you will know that Google and other search engines do not like Link Networks. Every so often Google penalises the sites that use these networks and when they do it can take a long time to get your search engine rankings back to where they were. This month Google penalised a large Link Network in Japan. Although we haven’t seen Google hit a Link Network for a while it does go to show that they are still checking!

Find out how you can benefit from the latest Google Search Results change!

3. Google have confirmed what we already knew, the reviews in Google Local are not a search ranking factor.

4. Google also confirmed that 302 redirects WILL pass link juice to websites, however with that said 302 is a temporary redirect and you should move to 301 if the redirect is permanent.

5. If you were thinking of changing your websites URL’s to include keywords, Google says it is not worth it as it is a very small ranking factor. That said, did we just hear Google tell us a Ranking Factor! 🙂 We would recommend adding your keywords to new URL’s though as ‘every little helps!’

6. The age old SEO theory of if you see a spike in your traffic from Google crawling it must mean that a new algorithm update is coming. The reason behind people thinking this is that they think Google is gathering the most up to date indexed pages so the update is more effective. Google however, have confirmed this is rubbish as the system that crawls websites is not connected to algorithms.

7. The SEO industry noticed a large drop (more than 20%) in websites with Reviews Rich Snippets. These are the little stars next to the search results in Google. A bug was later found by Google and we are now seeing the review stars returning. Phew!

 8. Google sent out a large amount of Hreflang notifications to webmasters Search Console recently, if you use Hreflang we recommend that you check your Search Console. Of course, Juicy SEO clients do not need to worry about this as we monitor your Search Console for you!

If you would like to know how to become a client of Juicy SEO and help your website perform better than it has ever before, click here!

9. AMP was launched to the World this month, AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages, it is a way to display websites faster for static content on mobile devices. Google is heavily behind this project and this month said that websites that use AMP will not have a better chance of ranking in search results. We are willing to bet that it won’t be long until it will though! We will let you know when you should be seriously looking at AMP so keep reading our future reports or follow us on Social Media.

10. It wouldn’t be a Juicy SEO report if we didn’t mention the up and coming Penguin algorithm update. The story (shortened version) so far…. Google said in the middle of 2015 that the new Penguin algorithm will be live by September, then it was November. Then in December they said it is ready to make live but didn’t want to because of the holidays so they will run in the first couple of weeks of 2016. Then, in January they informed us it will be live for definitely in the first quarter of 2016. So this month’s update, they have said ‘It will be live once it is ready!’. We think they will miss that deadline too! 🙂

Google removes right hand side adverts in search results!

Search engines like Google are continuously making changes to their search engines, it could be an algorithm update, small changes to individual results or they have just changed their logo. However this month Google have made a big change and one that will affect every person who is promoting their website!

It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out with a small blog hoping to gradually increase the number of visitors to your website or you are huge e-commerce website with 100,000s of visitors every day, if you are using SEO or PPC this is an important change!

What has changed in Google’s search results?

So what has changed?

This month Google have started to roll out removing all the adverts which are on the right-hand side of their search results and increased the amount of adverts in the main left-hand side.

“Oh is that all?!”

At first that might not seem such a big deal but trust us it could turn out to be a very big deal and could cost you money!

The Old Google Search Results

So first off let’s quickly explain what we are all used to seeing, just so you can compare and understand what has changed and how it will affect you and your websites traffic.

When you use Google to search for your favourite pizza takeaway or to find a handbag to match a dress, you would enter your search phrase and Google would display on the left-hand side their organic search results. Typically at the top and bottom of this list would be 2 or 3 adverts from Google’s AdWords service.

On the right-hand side of the page you would see another list of results which are all adverts which business pay for your click to take you to their website.

We are all used to this, organic search results on the left PPC paid adverts on the right.

The New Google Search Results

From now on you will see a new page layout when using Google’s search engine. There now isn’t a list on the right-hand side of adverts, these have been replaced (sometimes) with what Google call their Knowledge graph. You have probably seen these already, they are a more details answer to your search query in a box often with an image.

Googles Knowledge Graph
Googles Knowledge Graph

So if you were searching for Barack Obama Google would display a little bio about Barack and a photo. They get this information normally from the top ranking website for that term.

So no more right-hand adverts.

This will most likely not surprise you but Google have not decided to stop showing adverts!

Instead they have increased the amount of AdWords PPC adverts at the top of the search results to 4 and also increased the amount at the bottom too!

Google Search Results - New
Google Search Results – New

Why have Google made this change?

A very good question!

Well this question will have many different answers depending on who you ask, some might say by moving the adverts from the right to the left would increase the amount of clicks for paid adverts as people would think they are organic search results. (not us of course, we believe whatever Google says! 😉 ).

Google’s official reason is that the search results for paid and organic will look better on mobile devices after this change.

We don’t doubt that they will, in fact they do to be honest.

How will it affect SEO and PPC?

SEO – Search Engine Optimisation – Organic

For SEO we expect to see confusion for the searcher, apart from the small AD icon it is hard to see which results are adverts and which are organic. The searcher likes Organic results because they know they are ranking well on credit and must have good quality content.

As far as we can tell there will still be 10 organic search results, well certainly from the tests we have tried anyway so being on the first page of Google will still be very important.

Here are some of the things we think this change will affect SEO:

  1. It is very important for all websites to display their ‘Sales Pitch’ above the fold (the part of your website visitors can see without having to scroll down the page). With more adverts above the organic results it will push the all important top 3 positions further down the screen.
  2. As mentioned above it will be a while until people have realised that there are now 4 adverts at the top of the search results and they will need to look further down to get to the organic listings. If you share this post to your friends then they will all know!
  3. The Google AD icons are very small and in yellow, which doesn’t display well on a lot of screens (hmm, funny that!).

PPC – Pay Per Click – Adverts

It’s not all doom and gloom though, PPC is a fantastic way to get your website in front of a lot of people very quickly and completely scalable so you can increase your budget as your business increases its sales.

This new change will obviously help PPC AdWords adverts which are in the top 4 results as now they are the first thing people will see after entering search results, especially on mobile devices (as reported by Juicy SEO at the start of the Year there are more people searching on mobile devices than desktop computers).

Previously it was very important to make sure your advert was in the top 3 adverts, the worse was the 4th position as it was located at the top right of the screen which people didn’t pay attention too. Now the 4th position is going to see a huge increase of CTR.

The downside for PPC managers is that you might get an increased amount of visitors who are not actually looking for your product and increase your bounce rate for your adverts. This is not good as this will affect how much you pay per click and so therefore will cost you money!

Let me explain that a little more. There is a large percentage of searchers who are really just interested in finding out about things, it could be a product or service, or just want to learn more about an industry. They are not looking to buy anything as they are not in their ‘shopping mode’.

So they use the organic results more as they know the content on websites ranking well organically should be the best place for them to find what they are looking for. Later on once they know what they want they will put on their ‘Shopping Hat’ and include using Google’s Adverts.

These ‘information’ gathers will most likely start clicking on your adverts, once they see the page is not what they were looking for they will simply bounce back to Google and click on another link, therefore costing the advertiser money for zero return.

Managing PPC campaigns has just got that bit harder!

Conclusion

So what have we learnt from this and what should we do?

SEO

  1. For your SEO campaign understanding what competition you are up against has always been important, now you really need to include PPC adverts as competition!
  2. Look for keywords which have less interest from PPC advertisers.
  3. Getting the top two spots has just got a little more important!

PPC

  1. For the PPC advertiser manage your negative keywords.
  2. Stay on top of your PPC campaign, every day, not once a month!
  3. Make sure your adverts are in the top 3!

Juicy SEO Monthly Report Covering January 2016

Welcome to the January 2016 edition of Juicy SEO’s Monthly SEO Report, Happy New Year! 🙂

As per the last couple of years we will be continuing out monthly look at SEO and online marketing and remove all the fluffy that doesn’t really help your website perform better and highlighting all the good stuff!

We will as per normal try and keep it down to 120 seconds so you get the information you need as quick as possible so you can get on with the rest of your day.

General SEO News

Google have recommended that you do NOT use decimal points in your pages URL, the search engine says it makes it hard for them to understand the page.

This month Google explained that links to websites from your own do not help your website rank better (we wrote a short blog post on this on our Google ranking factor found page), obviously the link will help the other website.

At the top of the search results in Google you may have noticed a box containing an answer to your query. This is called ‘Featured Snippets’ and it is a section from a website which Google has decided provides the best answer. Many people in the SEO industry, myself included feel this is a disadvantage to the content owners website as it could stop the reader clicking to their site. However Google this month have said that Featured Snippets do not reduce the amount of visitors to websites but in fact increases them! hmm.

Featured Snippet
Featured Snippet example

AOL search engine is now powered by Bing. This and other changes to Bing’s search engine has helped it gain a bigger slice of the searches (incidentally, Google is still by far the biggest search engine but their grip has loosened slightly).

Mid January we saw some major movements in search results across the board, ‘Was this the Penguin update we have been waiting for?’  No. In fact, it was a Core ranking update (not including Panda – see below) so the wait for the Penguin update continues…

Speaking of the Core search ranking algorithm (CSRA), Google have now confirmed that the Panda algorithm is now part of the CSRA.

This month a test was carried out and found that 25% of 10,000 searches were websites which had SSL (HTTPS). We expect this to increase in time and therefore if your website has not currently got an SSL certificate and you are in a competitive industry you should consider securing your site.

Google have said that the new version/update of their Penguin algorithm WILL be live in the first quarter of this year. Don’t blame me if I don’t hold my breath though!

Google is now using their Search Console more to send out messages to website owners, these messages should not be received unnoticed as some are very important for your website. Of course all Juicy SEO clients don’t need to worry as we do this for you.

Google paid Apple $1B in 2014 to provide search results for IOS devices; with all the talk going around that Apple are creating their own search engine, surely it is a better commercial decision to keep earning $1B per year for no work?

As you may know, Google has it’s own search engine for Images (Example), this month they have said that although they do try and index new images as quick as possible they do not update indexed images with the same URL that often. Therefore, if you are using Google image search to gain traffic (and it is a very good way to do that) and you want to index a new image, then make sure the URL is also new. It does mean however the old image is still indexed.

And finally Bing have changed their logo this month, didn’t Google do that not so long ago? Hmm, the word ‘sheep’ comes to mind! Anyway here is the new logo next to the older yellow version and the original one.

If you missed previous monthly reports, don’t worry they are all in our monthly SEO section.

Glossary

Panda: The Google Panda update concentrates on the quality of the web page content, if the algorithm thinks the page is of low quality it might penalise it in Google’s search results.

Penguin: Google has an algorithm called Penguin which analyses links to web pages and identifies which ones are valuable or spam links. An example of a spam link would be a paid link to your site.

Pigeon: Google’s Pigeon algorithm concentrates on Local SEO, if you have a bricks and mortar business this is something you should take note of.

Phantom (Quality Update): This algorithm rewards website pages for good content.

TDL: A TLD means Top Level Domain like .com or .net or .co.uk.

Google ranking factor found!

You may already know that Google uses around 200 different signals to help rank websites for keyword phrases. These signals are a closely guarded secret, in fact only 4 people in the World know them all (anyone of those 4 can have a job here at Juicy SEO if they like!).

New Google Logo

So it is nice when we find out from the horses mouth one of these signals, or not a signal as the case maybe.

This week Google confirmed that links from your website to another is NOT a ranking factor. In the past there was talk that linking to other sites with a higher authority in your sector could help your page rank. So now we know that isn’t true.

Just to be completely clear here, links TO your website are still a ranking factor so keep chasing those links!

Juicy SEO Monthly Report Covering December 2015

Welcome to the December 2015 edition of Juicy SEO’s Monthly SEO Report, if you have missed any other reports for previous months don’t worry they are all HERE.

As per every month we condense all the important SEO and online marketing news in a quick and handy 120 second read, so here goes…

Juicy SEO 120 second Monthly SEO Report
Juicy SEO 120 second Monthly SEO Report

General SEO News

If you are a regular reader of our Monthly SEO reports then you will remember we have been saying December is the month Google will release the latest version of their Penguin algorithm. It seems that they left it a little too late in December to make live as they have now decided to delay until 2016. If they made it live too near the Christmas holidays and there were issues there wouldn’t be enough people at work to fix. Kind of makes sense.

Google have created a new HTML framework which they have designed to speed up web pages and in particular, mobile pages. We won’t go into the details of it here (if you want to read up about it click here) as we will go off topic. The interesting thing about this though is that Google have said that they might give websites an advantage in their search results if you use this framework. There is a good chance this will happen as it follows similar advantages for SSL websites and Mobile friendly websites.

Last month we mentioned a possible Google algorithm update (Nov 19th) which had affected many websites ranking positions but we weren’t 100% sure, in this instance we were right there was a Phantom (Quality Update) update in November.

It also looks like there has been another Phantom update around the 10th December and again around on the 16th and 29th December, we have seen lots of movement around those days. The SEO community has also seen this.

Google have decided to index any website that uses HTTPS ahead of the HTTP version even if you have set it up to default to HTTP.

If you follow us on one of the many social media channels you would have read our posts in December about Google changing the way they count visitors to your website in Search Console. You might have seen an increase in the amount of visitors Google thinks were on your website due to this change.

Google have said that their robot can not see hyperlinks which are invoked by the cursor hovering over the button and therefore, would not be able to use to help the website. We can’t think why you would want a button on your website which you don’t click but that might be just us?

This Month’s SEO Tip

This month’s SEO Tip is to do with Sitemaps. Every website should have a sitemap.xml file which you can use to inform search engines of new content to your website. It helps them index pages quicker. If your website is large it makes sense to split up your sitemap, you could have the main Index version which lists all the other sitemap versions inside it. You would then only need to tell the search engines about the Index version.

So, why would you do this?

By splitting up your content into separate sitemap files you can identify which types of content index better. For example, if one of your sitemaps is for Categories and more pages are indexed compared to your Posts sitemap it could be down to the way the page (template) is designed. Just another little signal to help you understand why certain pages are indexing better than others.
As mentioned on Social Media and in last month’s report we have some VERY exciting news which we will be announcing soon about Social Media. You will not want to miss but as it is about Social Media we will be announcing it on Social Media (kind of makes sense doesn’t it). So follow us on Twitter and Facebook so you don’t miss out!

How to stop people coping your content

If there is one thing all website owners should be doing and that is creating more quality content. If you read other SEO blogs you would have read this there also, it’s not new news, in fact we have been saying it for years. Its quite simple, more quality relevant content should create more traffic to your website.

Content creation

Creating content which is worth reading takes time, if you love to write and have a lot of time then this isn’t an issue for you. But I would guess the majority of website owners don’t have as much time that is needed to create great content.
So when you do manage to find some valuable time and create your masterpiece the last thing you want is for someone else to copy it and put it on their own website without a credit to you.

Incidentally, if you can never find the time to write your important content you should see this!

Unique content

It is a well-known fact that duplicate content whether on the same website or over several domains is bad for your SEO campaign. Regular unique content can help your websites online reputation so it is very important to your online marketing campaign.

So how do you protect your content?

I’m going to show you a little tip which is easy to add to your website, you only need to do it once and it will make it a bit harder for people to copy your precious content.

Scanners – Robots not in disguise

But just before I get into what you need to do I think it would be good to quickly explain the two main ways content is copied.
The first are online robots, bits of code that go from one website to another mining for content to steal to be used elsewhere.

Copiers – Pesky humans!

The second are humans, those pesky earth walkers who sit at their desks surfing websites looking for content to borrow 🙂 . You will find that a large percentage of them are simply highlighting the text, hitting Copy and then Pasting it elsewhere, probably on their own site.
It wouldn’t be so bad if they gave you credit with one of those nice links to your website, but this doesn’t always happen.

How to stop people copying my content

So how can we stop this or even make it a little harder?
This little trick won’t stop everyone, but it will make it harder for those Human types and their Copy & Paste buttons!

Websites use a programming (kind of) language called HTML to help create what you see on your screen. The idea of this tip is to assign a little bit of code to one or more commands used by HTML.

One of the most common commands used and the one I will use in this example is the <DIV> command (you don’t need to use the <DIV> command it will work for other commands too).

I won’t go into detail about what this does but just think of it a command that groups up sections of a page (if you want to know the full job of a <DIV> command search HTML div in a search engine and you will get loads of info).

So for this example I will use this nice bit of valuable content and help protect it:

“Quality content on your website will help generate more traffic to your site, just let people know it’s there!”

In the simplified HTML version of the code it would look something like:

<div>Quality content on your website will help generate more traffic to your site, just let people know it’s there!</DIV>

Still following? Yep, good!

Another programming language used as well as HTML is CSS, this is used to handle the cosmetics of the page. Things like fonts used, colours and positioning of content on the page. We will be using CSS to help protect your content.

Now what we are going to do is to not allow anyone to highlight the text between <DIV> and </DIV>, after all if they can’t highlight the content they can’t Copy & Paste it either!

You could add our code below to every individual <DIV> you have on your website, but to be honest, you have better things to do!
So we will simply assign the code to ALL <DIV> commands using CSS. That way future content will also be protected too.

Code to use

So, as mentioned earlier, we will use CSS to assign some code which will protect all content between the <DIV> and </DIV> commands. You can add this either in your page header or in your seperate CSS file. We have provided both versions below:

Code in Header of webpage

Our Demo

Here at Juicy SEO we practise what we preach, so try and highlight the text on this page yourself and see it in action!

Don’t forget though…

As mentioned earlier, we all love links and if you wish to let people copy some of your content you will have to bare this in mind. We recommend including an Embed button so they can gather the info quickly and use if you want to share parts of a webpage.

Plus you would have a valuable link to your website in that embed as well!
Hint hint 🙂

We would love to hear from you on how this has helped your website and if you know of other little tips to help protect your content, give us a shout on one of our Social Media accounts!

Juicy SEO Monthly Report Covering November 2015

Welcome to another edition of Juicy SEO’s Monthly SEO Report, first off if you missed last month’s SEO report then you should quickly read it so you are fully up to date, here is a link to our monthly SEO report for October 2015.

Lots going on so we will go straight to it as our aim as normal is to condense a whole month’s SEO changes into a 120 seconds read, so here goes….

General SEO News

We all know now how important a mobile friendly website is for Google and their mobile version of their search result algorithm, well now it looks like Bing will be releasing a mobile version of their algorithm too. So expect the same penalty if you don’t have a mobile-friendly website. We are expecting this to be rolled out in the first quarter of 2016.

Did we mention that some big news in Social Media is coming?!

Google has reminded small business and website owners not to analyse big websites and try and copy how they do their SEO, Google said ‘…you would be surprised how many get it wrong…’ when talking about big companies SEO campaigns. Nothing to learn from there but it’s nice to hear. We at Juicy SEO analyse big and small websites all the time and we can back Google’s comments up, we have seen some shockers!

Around the 18th/19th of November there looks to have been a Google update of some kind, Google are saying there hasn’t been an algorithm update but there are too many SEOs saying something has happened. We too have seen a lot of movement in the ranking results. We do not think it is an algorithm update but maybe a refresh of some kind.

This month Google have said AGAIN that the new Penguin algorithm update is very close, they have a date but can’t say when it is yet. To us that means that they have finished the work and are ready to hit the GO button.

Google are making lots of changes to Google+, this is most likely due to the lack of interest people are having with the social network. They are cleaning the mobile interface to make it easier to navigate among other work.

That’s the lot for this month, however, we are expecting THE BIG PENGUIN news in December!

This Month’s SEO Tip

This month’s tip is something we at Juicy SEO say to all our clients, and, in fact anyone else who will listen and has now been advised by Google as well,

Be Consistent!

If you are writing blog posts, keep to a schedule.

Make sure your website is designed consistently throughout the site (buttons, image naming etc).

 Internal links.

External links for that matter too!

This is also is something you should consider when posting on Social Media, consistency will be big in 2016!
As I mentioned Social Media we have some VERY exciting news which we will be announcing soon about Social Media. You will not want to miss but as it is about Social Media we will be announcing it on Social Media (kind of makes sense doesn’t it). So follow us on Twitter and Facebook so you don’t miss it!

TDL: A TLD means Top Level Domain like .com or .net or .co.uk.
